{"id":799,"date":"2015-09-04T09:55:29","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T15:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/?p=799"},"modified":"2015-09-04T08:58:32","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T14:58:32","slug":"aspen-airport-forgoes-second-fbo-for-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/aspen-airport-forgoes-second-fbo-for-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Aspen Airport Forgoes Second FBO&#8230; For Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-airport.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-795\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-airport.png?resize=280%2C96\" alt=\"Aspen airport\" width=\"280\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a>The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is backing away from its plans to add a second FBO (fixed base operator) to the field. \u00a0Pitkin County announced yesterday it is proceeding with part of the airport&#8217;s planned upgrades, and one &#8220;environmental assessment&#8221; (EA) process laying out plans for a wider reconfigured runway to accommodate jets with wider wingspans, and a new terminal building. \u00a0The county will forego a second EA and the plans to add a second FBO and taxiway for private planes on the airport&#8217;s west side.<\/p>\n<p>Currently Aspen airport has one FBO, operated by the Atlantic Aviation chain. \u00a0During peak summer and winter holiday seasons Aspen is one of the busier single-runway, single-FBO airports in the country. \u00a0In addition Aspen valley and its surrounding topography requires most jets to land and take off using the same approach\/departure corridor to the east of the airport, requiring more planning\u00a0and time needed to coordinate inbound and outbound aircraft.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_797\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-Airport-overhead1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-797\" class=\"size-full wp-image-797\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-Airport-overhead1.jpg?resize=550%2C412\" alt=\"Aspen Airport overhead\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-Airport-overhead1.jpg?w=550 550w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/flightlistpro.com\/private-jet-charter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aspen-Airport-overhead1.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-797\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aspen&#8217;s airport, from the mountains to the southwest.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pitkin County was previously planning to put two EAs forward at once containing all elements of the master plan. But after meeting with with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials over the last few months, it has decided to simplify the EA process to focus on upgrades to the airport\u2019s east side, making it less confusing and more cost-effective, according to a Pitkin County press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety has always been the top priority at this airport.
